Research Associate

Job Description

FourthIR is creating a roster for its research activities and therefore seeks applications from persons who are highly motivated and skilled to work on business and social science related research projects. The successful candidate is able to create appealing research reports for clients using graphic design skills and portrays a strong command of economic and financial analysis in those reports. A FourthIR Research Associate is a leader in the research groups with several interns who report into this role. The associate therefore has good interpersonal skills, coordinates webinars and seminars, presents research findings and works meticulously. The role reports to a Research Fellow who is an accomplished researcher. It also has a reporting matrix to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Propose social science and business research projects that have an impact on society and policy

  • Identify research grants and work closely with a research fellow to apply for those grants

  • Create awareness for upcoming webinars and seminars by posting about them on FourthIR social media

  • Present research proposals and research findings to relevant stakeholders

  • Engage stakeholders and policy makers in research projects including but not limited to facilitating webinars

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting , Banking, Business Administration or related field

  • A master's degree is an added advantage

  • Strong Graphic Design Skills

  • Ability to run social media pages

  • Has run a newsletter before

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use Stata, Eviews and SPSS

  • Ability to use NVivo is an added advantage

  • Evidence of having published in Journal articles is an added advantage

  • Candidates who have taken the FourthIR research courses will have an added advantage

  • Candidates who have interned at FourthIR will have an added advantage

Intern

Job Description

Identifying and training the best researchers are two arduous tasks. Since 2021, FourthIR has been inviting students who are enthusiastic about research to join the unpaid internship program. The successful candidate works along side a research associate to assist create appealing research reports for clients using graphic design skills and portrays a strong command of economic and financial analysis in those reports. A FourthIR intern may not be the best researcher but develops his/her skills by working in a team. The intern therefore has good interpersonal skills, helps associates coordinate webinars and seminars, helps facilitate the presentation of research findings when called upon and works meticulously. The role reports to a Research Associate.

Qualifications

  • A student of a recognized university or college who has completed the second year of study

  • Be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting , Banking, Business Administration or related field

  • Has scored a grade point average (to date) of at least B with strong grades in mathematics, accounting, finance and econometrics

  • Strong Graphic Design Skills

  • Ability to run social media pages

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to use at least one of these will be an added advantage: Stata, Eviews and SPSS, NVivo

  • Candidates who have taken at least one FourthIR research course will have an added advantage
